Water activities for a yacht day from Marseille

Begin a Marseille water-activity brief with the coast: Frioul, the Côte Bleue or the Calanques. Then describe the swimming or equipment you want, leaving the operator to confirm a permitted, workable plan for the yacht.

Different coasts, different decisions

A Frioul-focused outing gives the skipper a different planning problem from a longer passage along the coast. If swimming is the priority, say so before filling the day with distant landmarks. The captain should be able to explain a realistic stop and an alternative if the exposure is unsuitable.

Keep the group’s expectations specific. Looking through a mask near the yacht is different from a guided dive, and neither is interchangeable with a powered activity. Mention participants’ experience and who prefers to remain aboard. The yacht, equipment and supervision need to suit both parts of the party.

Check the Calanques rules first

Within the park’s marine core, jet skis and motorised towing such as water-skiing and parasailing are prohibited. The national park’s sea guidance also identifies zones where navigation, anchoring or landing is restricted. A Calanques enquiry therefore does not include a jet-ski or tow-sports package.

For a permitted swim or a paddling idea, the operator must still check the exact location, vessel authorisation and current conditions. The park provides activity guidance and regulatory maps. A photograph of a cove, or a generic “water toys included” description, cannot establish that a particular activity can take place there.

Access and equipment on the proposed yacht

A sailing monohull and a motor catamaran can have very different routes between the cockpit and the water. Ask to see the actual ladder and platform and explain any difficulty with steps. Cabins, beam or a model name do not answer the reboarding question.

If snorkelling equipment or a paddleboard is requested, have the proposer list the available items, sizes and who oversees their use. A crewed charter does not automatically include a diving instructor or sports coach. Specialist sessions should identify the qualified provider, their equipment and the separate scope of service.

Leave space for a revised programme

Around Marseille, the wind can change which part of the coast is comfortable. Agree how the crew will communicate a revised course and whether the outing can remain worthwhile without entering the water. Give lunch and return arrangements enough flexibility to accommodate that decision.

Send the date, group count, preferred coast and one or two activity priorities. The quote should separate the charter from chargeable equipment or an outside provider, including what happens to those charges if the activity cannot proceed. Confirm the actual yacht and the written terms before treating the programme as booked.
